2013 Nats chit chat & info

5.7.4 21.5 Turn Touring
Only SARDA approved 21.5 Turn Touring brushless motors & electronic speed controls will be permitted to be used in the 21.5 Turn Touring class. SARDA will use ROAR Approved as the standard for approval. Please consult the equipment list for approved motor.

9.4 Weight Limits
9.4.1 All Four Wheel drive cars and Front Wheel Drive cars shall have a minimum weight limit of 1,380g (1.38kg) ready to race.

9.8 Tyres

9.8.1 Rubber Tyres - All Touring Car Classes will only be permitted to use rubber tyres. FWD 13.5 Touring as specified in 9.9.4 & 21.5 Touring as specified in 9.11.3
Rubber Tyre dimensions
9.8.1.1 Minimum wheel width 19mm
9.8.1.2 Maximum Wheel width 26mm
9.8.1.3 Minimum Tyre width 19mm
9.8.1.4 Maximum tyre width 28mm
9.8.1.5 Minimum tyre diameter when mounted 61mm
9.8.1.6 Maximum tyre diameter when mounted 67mm


9.8.2 Participants are not permitted to use tyres of which the traction surface has worn through.
9.8.3 Tyre Quantity limits
9.8.3.1 Touring Modified will be limited to 3 new sets of 4 tyres per event
9.8.3.2 All other Touring Classes (excluding 13.5 FWD Touring & 21.5 Touring) will be limited to 2 new sets of 4 tyres per event
9.8.3.3 All tyres will be marked by SARDA before the event commences. An official SARDA marking will be applied to each tyre and may not be removed during the event. In case of the SARDA marking being removed, the competitor will be disqualified from the event.

9.9 FWD 13.5 Touring Specifications

9.9.1 Body: HPI Celica GT 190mm
(see Annexure 1 for preferred supplier/s)
9.9.2 Electronic Speed Controller: Brushless Electronic Speed Control with no Turbo/Timing Function and to be approved by SARDA and supplied by preferred supplier. (see Annexure 1 for preferred supplier/s & equipment)
9.9.3 Motor: 13.5 brushless motor approved by SARDA with no timing function and to be supplied by preferred supplier. (see Annexure 1 for preferred supplier/s & equipment)
9.9.4 Tyres: Solaris SP40 Rubber Tyres, 1x set to be used for entire National event duration and to be supplied by preferred supplier at an approved SARDA cost. (see Annexure 1 for preferred supplier/s)
9.9.5 Battery: Any battery may be used from the SARDA approved battery list.
9.9.6 Drive ratio
See Annexure 1 and rule 9.2.2
9.9.7 Preferred supplier to adhere to the guarantees and supply of equipment to the FWD class for the duration of the season.

9.11 21.5 Turn Touring
9.11.1. Motors & Electronic Speed Controls

Brushless Motors - Only Sensored 21.5T brushless motors with locked timing that are approved by the SARDA Committee will be permitted to be used in the 21.5 Touring class.
Only the following Brushless motors will be allowed
• Team Wave Linear 21.5T
• HobbyWing Xerun 21.5T
• Speed Passion Ultra Sportsman 21.5T
• Speed Passion Ultra Sportsman2 21.5T
• Speed Passion Ultra Sportsman3 21.5T
The following Brushless Speed controls will be allowed. All speed controls must be used with zero additional timing and zero super charge or turbo boost timing (blinky mode)
• LRP Sphere- No SPX
• Nosram ISTC
• Novak Kinetic Spec
• Novak GTB, GTB2
• Novak Havoc
• Novak Edge
• Tekin RS/Pro – spec (blinky) mode
• Team Wave RB-0
• Speed Passion Cirtix Stock Club Race
• HobbyWing JuStock Spec Race
Any Brushless Motor or Electronic Speed Control not listed above needs to be submitted to the SARDA Committee for approval

9.11.2. Drive Ratio Limit

9.11.2.1. 21.5T Brushless Motors will be limited to a maximum rollout of 54mm
9.11.2.2. The Specification tyre diameter will be taken as 63 mm.
9.11.2.3. All racers using 21.5T Brushless motors must submit their spur gear and pinion combination when registering at race control the morning of the event. The spur gear and pinion combination must remain the same for the duration of the event. Any racer not complying with the above will be disqualified from the heat/mains.

9.11.3. Specification Tyres: Solaris SP40 Rubber Tyres, 1x set to be used for entire National event duration and to be supplied by preferred supplier at an approved SARDA cost. (see Annexure 1 for preferred supplier/s)

9.11.4. All other rules/procedures & specifications not mentioned above will be as per touring car rules as published in SARDA Rules Version 17.00 for 2013

9.11.5. No entry fee or SARDA affiliation fee will apply to this class.
9.11.6. No 13.5 Touring or Modified Touring Drivers will be allowed to race this class

11. South African Championships

The South African championships will be a series of 5 (five) major events held during a calendar year. Each event will have points awarded to each competing racer. Each racer will be allowed to discard his/her 2 worst results (including not attending any one or more of the events). Thus, each competitor’s 3 (three) best events will count towards the series. The winner of each class (the person with the highest points score) will be declared the South African Champion in the class. Should there be a tie, superior discards will be taken into consideration, should this not break a tie, and then the position will be shared.

12. Event Format of a SARDA National Event

12.1 All SARDA National events will be held over a two-day period. No reserve days will be allocated.
12.2 All events will comprise of 3 Qualifying heats and two Finals with the following exceptions:
12.2.1 Touring Modified and 12th scale Modified will have 3 A mains finals.
12.2.2 There is a time loss, in which case Rule 25 will come into play.

12.3 It is suggested that at least 2 heats are run in the first day with the final heat and mains on day two. With smaller entries and longer daylight time, it is suggested that more racing be completed on the first day to allow for more freedom of time thereafter.
Order of racing will be fixed as follows:
FWD 13.5 Touring
13.5 Turn Touring
21.5 Turn Touring
12th Scale Modified
17.5 Turn Touring
Touring Modified

12.4 The event must be closed with an awards ceremony or Prize giving.

Annexure 1

1. FWD 13.5 Touring
1.1 Drive Ratio
 Tamiya FF03/FF03 Pro - only a 48T pinion, 89T spur gear, standard idler gear and standard counter gear will be permitted.
 Top Sabre – only a 24T pinion, 37T spur gear and standard counter will be permitted.
 Tamiya FF02 - only a 24T pinion, standard counter & standard spur gear will be permitted
 3 Racing Sakura FF - only a 22T pinion, 40T spur gear, standard idler gear and standard counter gear will be permitted
 Any other chassis - see Rule 9.2.2

1.2 Preferred Supplier/s
a. Bodies – SARDA Approved HPI Celica GT 190mm - available on order from any local hobby shop or B&B Importers (Tel: 011 794 5253) www.bbimporters.co.za/ . Available from January 2011

b. Electronic Speed Control – SARDA Approved Team Wave RB0 Stock Spec ESC – available on order from any local hobby shop or Magcar Trading (www.topracingsa.co.za). Available from January 2011

c. 13.5 Turn Brushless Motor – SARDA Approved Team Wave Stock Spec 13.5 Turn Brushless motor - available on order from any local hobby shop or Magcar Trading (www.topracingsa.co.za). Available from January 2011

2. Tyres 21.5 Touring & FWD 13.5 Tourng - Solaris SP40 Rubber Tyres - available on order from any local hobby shop or Magcar Trading (www.topracingsa.co.za).

Additions to Annexure 1 will be added as and when required after a dually constituted SARDA ORE Committee meeting.

next nats event is Meyerton as you all know, very bumpy track, few 10th scale pot holes lol, to a amature the track looks easy, its a track where tight lines are dangerous, grip is laying on the middle of the track inside and outside lines are very loose, very hot track, last race meeting we had a track temp max of 69 degrees C, best thing to do for a newbie on the track, walk along the track, first corner could cost you the race

Mmmm..... Thx for all the info guys! I wish I could attend the next one but need to save up for all the gear required and costs to stay and travel.

You got any pics driftdog? From the aerial shot it looks smooth leaning towards a hard setup, but if it's bumpy, a setup along the lines of parow is probably on the money.

@skillz - pull your finger out buddy!!! Sell some of that stagnant rc stuff!!!

ride height you run at 6.5mm, shock oil 40wt right round, turn2 is sharp, shicane is very fast and tricky, if you exit the last tight corner and enter the oval its full taps all the way
